Fly Brisbane to Quilpie
|
Riders fly in from Brisbane to
Quilpie which sees you arrive by lunch time (flight included
in price).
The flight is a good chance to have a bird’s eye view
of the changing landscape from the forests of the east coast
of Australia to the Outback channell country.
Once you have landed in Quilpie you'll have a chance wonder
around this small country town to look at some of its history
and buildings.
We will have a great evening meal at one of the local hotels
and go over any last minute questions before starting of the
next day of the tour. |
|
Day two/ 195km
|
The first day is a relatively
easy days riding, introducing you remoteness of the Australian
Outback with her never ending roads, there are attractions along
the way such as the Toompine
Hotel from the Cob and Co era. The scenary that you can
expect to see are varried rolling hills and plains with mulgu
scrub vegitation.
Hopefully we will roll into Thargomindah in the early afternoon,
this will give us a chance to have a look the the first australian
hydroelectric
power station driven by Artesian bore water. There will
be plenty of time inthe afternoon to do your own thing. The
evening sees us finish the day of at a local wating hole with
a great Aussie stake and cold beer. |
|
Day three/ 346km
|
It
is time to forget about the bitumen for a while because for
the next couple of days it's going to be a distant memory.
Our goal for the day is to make it down the track to Camerons
Corner, this is where 3 states intersect, QLD, SA and
NSW, it is also where you get to see the longest fence in
the world call the Dingo Barrier fence. The road from Thargomindah
to Camerons is a stock transport route which starts to brings
you closer to the red sandy desert country.
|
|
Day four/ 274km
|
The
day sees us travel to the end of the earth to a place called
Innamincka with it's wind swept rolling plains and barren land
scape.
We will ride famous tracks like the Strezlecki Track and camp
on the banks of the Cooper Creek, it is also a great chance
to catch up on Australian pioneering history like the famous
ill fated expediton of Burke and Will , you will get to look
around the historic ruminants of the old Cemetery and hotel. |
|
Day five/ 220km
|
We depart Innamincka heading
for Birdsville via Stones Crossing (over Cooper Ck). This
route is very remote and not often used by travelers which
makes it all the more exciting. It will be a mixture of dirt
roads, gravel tracks and sandy trails.
We will cross the great gibber plains of the Stony Desert
to feel the radiant heat from the stony road surface.
The night will consist of a bush camp where you will have
the most fantastic views of the bright evening stars next
the warmth of the camp fire in the cool evening night.
|
Day

swells as people arrive in all manner of transport, motorcycles,
planes, buses, cars etc from all over Australia.
After enjoying the racing activities during
the day the evening activities of the Birdsville races are
another thing that makes this race meeting unique and special.
There is very much an outback carnival atmosphere
as the side show alley including the boxing tent and the focal
point the Birdsville Hotel provides the best entertainment
you've had for a long time.
On Saturday mid morning, for those who are
feeling up to it, we take an excursion into the sand hills
of the Simpson Desert and tackle big red a 40 meter high sand
dune one of 1100 sand dunes that exist in the Simpson. |
 |

About Birdsville Races
The first race meeting was held in 1882 as an event for hack
and stock horses with a few local spectators. The meeting now
includes a 12-race program. Prize money is in excess of $110K.
The race is famous throughout the world.
The Birdsville Cup is a much sought after Trophy. Crowds of
over 5000 race goers celebrate the carnival each year. Races
are held on the Friday and Saturday with dances in the evening
at the local Shire Hall. Food and souvenir stalls are situated
throughout the centre of town. |
The
Birdsville races attract motorcycle riders from all over Australia
and overseas. It's great to swap yarns (stories) with
other riders over a cold beer or two in the evenings, it also
helps to wash the dust down after a long day at the race track... |
