Plenty Highway, Queensland

The Plenty Highway runs East of the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory to Boulia in Western Queensland and is roughly 700km in length. It links many remote cattle stations and Aboriginal communities to larger rural centres, and is sometimes closed in the wet season.
If travelling along one of these dirt roads and you happen to see a dust cloud in the distance it's more than likely to be one of these road trains (Dust Machine). When caught behind one on a dirt road, it's next to impossible to overtake them. The best thing to do is just stop and get off the road and wait a while. To overtake one is dangerous and also the dust blocks up your air cleaner real quick!
These road trains can reach 53 meters long, they consist of three double decker trailers and a prime mover. The one in this picture is transporting cattle and the bull bar you see is not there for show! These trucks once moving are very hard to slow down and they tend to hit a lot of cattle and other large animals.
